Scooby Doo and Hangin Ten

Based on my oh so creative title, you might be asking yourself what these two things have in common…here is what happened in my world this morning:

I love Scooby Doo cartoons; always have. I loved how at the end when you find out who did it, the bad guy always said “yeah, and I would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for you pesky kids!” I thought Shaggy was so goofy and I loved his hippie gotee….I even agreed to go out with a guy in college because he was skinny, had wildly unkept hair, favored simple jeans and a t-shirt over anything else, and had that gotee….his frat brothers even called him Shaggy, and Pat if you’re reading this…sorry dude, but that’s why I said yes when you asked me out ;)

Anyway, this morning as I was driving to class, never in my wildest dreams did I think that THE MYSTERY MACHINE would pass me on the highway!! 01scoobydoomysterymachine1.jpg

If I hadn’t have had to have been somewhere, I would have followed the guy and had my picture taken with it….yes, it was that cool. I’m certain that they were on their way to fight a crime..probably at a carnival or amusement park.

Five minutes later, I pulled into McDonald’s to get my morning coffee. This is what went down:

SCENE: Me in my car, with my favorite pink Roxy hat on, and a grey hoodie. I’m pulling up to window number one to pay Andrea (the McD worker). After the payment transition goes down, she begins to stare at me and says…

Andrea – “Aren’t you a professional surfer?”

Me – “……(awkward pause and slight laugh) No.”

Andrea – “Oh wow…you really look like a surfer I remembered in Hawaii, and she is riding professionally now.”

Me – ” No way, I used to live in Hawaii..the Big Island, Hilo side, and I spend a lot of time at those beaches.” (By now I could tell by looking at her that she was definitely NOT a Texan and her dialogue and accent was definitely Hawaiian)

Andrea – “No ways sistah, (yep, she spoke pidgin) I lived on da Big Island too! Maybe I saw you there and thats why you looked familiar.”

Me – “yeah, maybe….I lived on the campus of UH Hilo…at the BCM.”

Andrea – “No ways..I lived right down the street from UHH!!”

Me- “Wow…small world…

By now the cars were lining up behind me and I had to take off, but I was a little floored by the whole thing, because of its complete randomness…I should just go back to talk to her because I miss the language sooooo much.

Anyway, all that before 9am…

I’m gonna go surf now.
