Birfday?

I’m going to see Van Halen in January. With David Lee Roth, and Wolfgang Van Halen. I’m pretty excited. They rock.

Today’s blog is about the English language and how we seemingly accept the incorrect pronunciation of several words, two of which I will discuss today; birthday and pumpkin. First of all, the word birthday…how hard can it be to say? Its two words put together to form one, and phonetically, there is no “f” sound. So why do some people call it a birfday? Oh wait, my bad, do you spell that birphday?

Pumpkin. Not punkin, or pukim, but puMpkin. There is an “m” in the word on purpose. People just leave it out…I guess what brought this to mind lately is the What-a-burger ads on the radio and the way the announcer says it. He is making a point, but still.

If you have speech problems, this blog isn’t for you. Accents are no excuse either because I have one and I still know how to say these words.

I’m done, have a good day. Go listen to Van Halen and Dance the Night Away.
