Sweeter Song

If our hopes are being disappointed just now, it means
that they are being purified. There is nothing noble the
human mind has ever hoped for or dreamed of that will
not be fulfilled. One of the greatest strains in life is the
strain of waiting for God. “because thou hast kept the
word of my patience.” Remain spiritually tenacious.
Oswald Chambers

There is a sweeter song we long to sing. Sometimes the song is to the tune of more money…or a certain material possession…or something we think we need or deserve. The melody can be slow and soothing, taking its time before it overcomes us to a point of obsession; and other times it can be so intense that it consumes all our thoughts, thus making the “song” our God.

Tonight’s post goes out to the single friends I have, sprinkled all over the globe. All carrying different hurts, longings, desires, and needs; but most having the same thing in common: the desire to sing the sweeter song, marriage.

I consider myself to be single but only in the past few years have I become single God’s way. He demands singleness in all aspects of our being; spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical. Take a minute and look back at those four aspects. God demands purity in all four. Where are you lacking? I believe that all these areas need to be reserved first and foremost for God, and next for our spouse. God already knows who you will marry…you already belong to him or her in His eyes. If you have no clue who that may be at this point in your life, maybe the timing for you two to meet hasn’t happened yet. Or, maybe God is waiting until you are sold out to Him in all four of these areas in your life, before bringing the two of you together. Regardless of why you are still single, one thing remains true..you ARE being prepared.

Now, some may think right now that they are called to be single for their whole lives. I’m not saying that that isn’t the case, but I can argue this point: all Christians are being prepared for a bridegroom. Did you catch that? ALL Christians. When Christ (the bridegroom) returns in all His splendor, He will gather His church (the bride). We all are being prepared for someone. That someone might be found on this earth (its likely,80% of people marry). But if not, we can rest assured that we should never stop striving for Christ centered holiness in all aspects of our lives so that when our glorious Savior comes to get us, we will be ready. Maybe instead of seeking a sweeter song, we should realize that what we have is the sweetest song ever given to mankind. What we have can’t get any better, and the best news is this: we WILL be with Him someday. Can we focus on falling even more in love with the sweetest song, and invest our lives in helping others fall in love too?

I want to end with a story that has been passed down through the ages. It is about the apostle Peter. It’s said that when Peter was an old man, he would be found weeping, several times during any given day. Knowing there was no apparent reason for this, one of the younger saints asked Peter why he did this. Peter simply replied “Desiderio Domini”. Translated, this means “I dearly long to be with my Lord”. Peter longed to be with his first love. His one and only. His friend. His savior.

My friend, God is preparing you. I pray you embrace it, and sing the song of Jesus.
